GENERAL DISCUSSION

These are the menu commands under the Specifications Menu.

Specifications Menu Commands
Menu Description
Generate Specifications This command will start the process that reads the Checklist and creates the Specifications on the Specifications page.

Generating the Specifications involves:

  1. Copying the specifications you “tagged” on the Checklist to the Specifications page.
  2. Resorting them into the 8 sections of the Specifications.
  3. Numbering and lettering them into the outline format.
  4. Writing the project name at the top of each page.
  5. Formatting the page breaks.
  6. Writing the page number and signature lines on the bottom of each page.
  7. Formatting the print range.

You may generate Specifications as many times as you wish until you are satisfied with the specifications.

In many cases you will need to re-generate specifications after you have reviewed them with your customer.

Of course, that’s the purpose of SpecWriter, to be able to easily revise the specifications before you sign the contract, which is a lot easier than after you’ve started construction.

Preview Specifications This command will open the Print Preview function, which will present the Specifications on the screen exactly as they will be printed.

In the Preview mode you can use the menu bar at the top of the page to move between the pages and to zoom in on any portion of a page for a closer view.

You can also use the Margins menu to change the page margins, but we strongly suggest that you leave our default settings as they are.

Use the Close menu button to close the Print Preview function when you are finished reviewing the Specifications.

It’s always a good idea to preview the Specifications before printing them.

Print Specifications This command will print the entire Specifications on your default printer.

If you need to send the print job to another printer, or if you only want to print a page or specific pages of the Specifications, then you should use File | Print Dialog Box instead.

Print Specifications Twice  This command will run the standard print routine twice in succession, which will print two copies of the Specifications.

This feature is designed in recognition of the fact that in many instances, such as when you are about to meet with your customer, you need will need two copies of the Specifications.

With this function, you can start the print routine and forget about it until it’s finished.
